I am so very proud of our “Prayer Children”, praying for people all over the world. But there is another group that I am also so proud of, our “ABC Children”.
Let me tell you a little bit about the history of our “ABC Children”. A few years back during one of my sermons I was telling a story about a little girl who had wandered off into the Jungle and had gotten lost. She couldn’t find her way back. After several hours went by she knelt down on the ground and began saying something. Shortly after that a man came into the Jungle, found the little girl, and rescued her. As the man was carrying her out of the jungles he asked the little girl, “you were saying something when I found you, what were you saying?” The little girl replied, “I was saying my ABC’s. I didn’t really know what to say or how to pray, but I knew that if I said my ABC’s God would take the letters and make a prayer for me out of them so that I would be found. And He did. You found me.”
I didn’t think anything more of that little story until a few weeks later when I went into my Prayer Chapel and found a little 4 year old girl, Stephanie Logan, in there. She was kneeling at the altar and she was saying her ABC’s. When I asked her why she was saying her ABC’s she said that like the little girl in the story she was letting God put the letters together to make a prayer. She said that the big kids could read the prayer requests that came in, and they knew who to pray for, but she couldn’t. But she said that God could take her ABC’s and make a prayer for anybody.
Right then and there I knew that we needed to start a new group, “ABC Children”; those children 4, 5, 6 and 7 years old who wanted to pray like the “Prayer Children”, but couldn’t read the prayer requests that came in. And so from this we started the “ABC Children”. These children go into the Church Altar by themselves and say their ABC’s before God and let God put these letters together into prayers for those who are sick, sad or troubled, and who have contacted our Mission for prayers. It has been several years since we started our “ABC Children” and like our “Prayer Children” who have been operating for many years now, the “ABC Children” have been very successful in what they are doing and our group has grown fairly large. I have also, over the past year watched some of our “ABC Children” go on the become regular “Prayer Children” as they have learned to read the prayer requests. But as these children go on to become prayer children, new children, 2 and 3 year olds are becoming “ABC Children”.
A while back I noticed that one of our 12 year old girls was working with a group of small children. When I asked her what she was doing she said that they wanted to become “ABC Children” and so she was teaching them to say their ABC’s.
I guess that the “ABC Children” will be around for a long time, and God will have a little extra job in taking all of those letters for the children and making prayers for them so that our “ABC Children” can pray for those who are sick, sad, or troubled. By the way, please keep these little “ABC Children” in your prayers. The devil does not like it when anyone is serving God. And these children, being so young, are so vulnerable to the attacks of the devil. They don’t have the resistance that those who have had to fight him all of our lives have.
