Jesus said “let the little children come and do not prevent them”. Does that mean that Jesus will more readily answer the prayers of little children? We think so.
Jesus also said, “Unless you turn and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” If you have to become like a little child to enter the kingdom of heaven, does that mean that the prayers of little children will enter the kingdom of heaven quicker? Again, we think so.
Children don't condemn others. They see the purity in them. The prayers of most adults don’t work as well. Adults tend to deny themselves what they want when they feel guilty because they don't feel they deserve it. So children, in their innocence, allow their prayers to come true because they are pure in heart. Most children have a simple understanding of prayer, mainly asking God for things, praying for others and thanking him for what they have.
When someone falls to their knees in humility and supplication to God, surrendering their power to Him completely and trusting in the integrity of His promise are rewarded in overwhelming measure for their faith. Children automatically know how to do this. Adults don’t. Sometimes adults are too close to the problem, too used to trying to fix things on their own, that they lack the simple faith that children have. The prayers of children are extremely powerful. Their faith is pure. And so they oftentimes get answers when adults fail to get them.
We have a special group of “Prayer Children” here at our Good Shepherd Mission who help me to pray for people back at home who are sick, sad, or troubled, or have any other needs. A few years back we added a Prayer Chapel at our Mission in which the children and I pray for those in need. It has been teaching the children to love others and to care for others needs. And not to just think about their own survival as children. Over the years it has proven to be a great program for the children and for those back at home, and even around the world, as God listens to the “Prayers of the children and righteous”.
For several years now our prayer children have been praying for the needs of those around the world. Our “Prayer Children” have prayed for people in South Thailand, India, Australia, New Zeeland, Nigeria, the Philippines, Belize, Guatemala, France, Zambia, Argentina, South Africa, Malaysia, the Dominican Republic, and Budapest Hungary, and of course the US and Canada, and many other countries around the world. As a Missionary from the US, I am personally spending about 4 ½ to 5 hours per day in prayer for the needs of others, and the “Prayer Children” are joining me as often as they can. We have prayer in our Prayer Chapel 4 ½ to 5 hours out of every day during the week, and also on Sunday mornings during our Divine Worship Service. Plus on Sunday before and after Church the “Prayer Children” gather in our Prayer Chapel and pray for the needs of those who have asked us for prayers. There are continually prayers going up from the Good Shepherd Mission that God will intercede in the lives of our friends.
We have prayed for the requests of those with serious illnesses who are fighting for their lives to those in prison who want to make a change in their lives. We have Prayer Requests from people with minor and major illnesses. We have Prayer Requests from Churches who just want to grow and prosper more, to people who just want God to bless them more in their lives. We have prayed for babies born with serious birth defects to elderly people in their 80’s and 90’s and even one over 100. There seems to be no need too big or too small for God to listen to, and for our Prayer Children to pray for. And although we can claim nothing of our own ability in having prayers answered, there have been many success stories as “God listens to the prayers of the children and the righteous.”
One of the other things that we have been teaching the children here to do is to give back for those things which have been given to them. And praying for others is one way for them to learn to give to others. Our prayer children are a Christian example to all other children and adults in this village, and perhaps this Country. And perhaps in other Countries as well. And because of their example many others are coming to Christ. Most of these Prayer Children live in midst of a very bad world. However, these Prayer Children have united together in mutual agreement and support to serve God and their neighbor by their spiritual lifestyle. Quite an undertaking for children, yes. But these Prayer Children have become mirrors or symbols that model the image of Jesus the Good Shepherd as they participated in their everyday existence. The purpose of forming these Prayer Children is, of course, the Christian training of these, and other children who they are an example to.
All prayers requests are kept confidential, and placed in special secure prayer shelves in our Chapel and in our Church during our Worship Services. If you have any needs that the children and myself could pray for, please send me the information: name, need, etc. and we will add it to our prayer time, both in Church on Sundays and daily in our Prayer Chapel. You can either write to me at the Good Shepherd Mission, Mango Creek, Independence Village, Stann Creek District, Belize, Central America, or you can email me at [email protected]. Or you can leave your prayer request on this Web Page under the section “Prayer Request Form” with your prayer requests.
We also have Vigil Candles which we light for special needs for those who request them. If you have a special need that you would like us to light a Vigil Candle for and to keep it burning as we pray for your needs, please let us know this along with your prayer request.
